Jack O'Neill is the founder of O'Neil surf shop, opening his first surf shop in Santa Cruz, California in 1959. O'Neill are now synonymous with quality westsuits, accessories and clothing.

Toes on the Nose
Inspired by the art of nose riding, John Severson, the renowned surf artist and founder/publisher of Surfer magazine, coined the phrase and designed the logo "Toes on the Nose" for his Surfer Quarterly magazine back in '61. It was used for an editorial column titled "Toes on the Nose" depicting the classic maneuver.
With the blessing from Surfer magazine, Toes on the Nose was established in 1992 in Laguna Beach, California with the mission to define its image through the definitive soul and style of longboarding.
Today Toes on the Nose continues the tradition, catering to the surfer who wants the clean and classic style reflecting the simplicity of earlier times.
Bing Clothing
Bing Copeland began surfing in 1949, at age 13, at the Manhattan Beach pier with his friend Greg Noll, who was a bait boy on the end of the pier.
Dale Velzy, was a lifeguard on the pier at the time and loaned them an 8 foot 80 lbs redwood surfboard to try out. From then on, Bing was hooked as was his friend Greg. Both of them hung around Velzy’s first shop for years helping sweep up, gluing up balsa blanks, shaping wood fins and repairing boards.
Bing opened his first surf shop in the fall of 1959 with his friend Rick Stoner and became one of the major surfboard manufactures of the sixties and early seventy's.
Reyn Spooner Traditional Hawaiian Shirts
In the early 50's, Reyn McCullough, packed his family and moved to Hawaii. Within a few years, the growth of Reyn's Ala Moana and other new Hawaii locations convinced him to concentrate his focus in the Mid-Pacific.
Enter Ruth Spooner who, in 1956 had established Spooners of Waikiki, and, with her one sewing machine operation on Waikiki Beach, was cultivating a reputation for the best 'kine' custom surf trunks in the islands. She made swimwear and shirts that Reyn designed, eventually selling him her business in 1962. Reyn set up four sewing machines in the basement of his Ala Moana store, and merging the two company names — Reyn Spooner® was born.
Globe

Honolua

Honolua was named after the mystical bay found on the Hawaiian Island of Maui’s western shore. A perfect right breaks along the point first passing the infamous and treacherous “Cave” and ending in the crystal blue waters of the bay where an abundance of sea life lives in tranquility. The islands are also home to one of the largest populations of waterman in the world because of the wide variety of conditions they have to offer. Jacobs
Hap Jacobs began shaping surfboards, at the time when board builders in Hawaii shaped pointy, round-bottom, flat deck boards for Makaha. His history in the Hawaiian and California.
Opening Dive N' Surf in 1953, and closing again in 1954, Jacobs joined Dale Velzy in California becoming the largest manufacturer of surfboards at the time and the first shop to sell silk-screened t-shirts with their logo - and they're still available today.
Bear
In 1977 John Milius, famous Hollywood producer on the scene from the 60's right through to the 90's and inventor of the Bear Surfboards brand for the movie 'Big Wednesday'. The brand is rooted in John's great passion for surf.
The first Bear Surfboards were 'shaped' in 1977 by Bill Hamilton, famous Hawaiian surfer and shaper of Kauai Island. Bill continued to shape the Bear Boards until 1991.
The first Bear boards and apparel collection including boardshorts, t-shirts, shirts and sweatshirts were produced for use in the movie. The success of the movie led to worldwide popularity of the Bear Logo and the demand for the Bear surfboards and Bear apparel.
The Bear line of apparel has only recently been made available in Australia.

Morning of the Earth
'Morning of the Earth' is without doubt the holy grail of surf movies. Outside of Bob Brown's 'Endless Summer', Albe Falzon's 'Morning of the Earth' has arguably impacted more surfers over 35 years, than any other surfing motion picture.
